Caffeine Gum Side Effects: What to Know Before You Chew

Caffeine gum is caffeine, so its side effects are the same as caffeine from coffee or a pill. Here's what to watch for and how to keep your dose in check.

Common side effects of too much caffeine

  • Jitters or feeling shaky
  • A racing heart
  • An upset stomach
  • Anxiety or restlessness
  • Trouble sleeping

If you notice these, cut back. Everyone reacts differently based on body size, tolerance, medications and how sensitive they are to caffeine.

How much is too much?

The FDA says up to 400 mg a day is not generally associated with dangerous, negative effects for most healthy adults. Each piece of our Sour Apple Power Pack has 100 mg of caffeine, so count every piece plus coffee, tea, soda, energy drinks and pre-workout.

A note on sugar-free gum

Many sugar-free gums use sugar alcohols such as xylitol and maltitol, which can upset your stomach if you have a lot. Xylitol is also dangerous for dogs, so keep gum away from pets.

Who should skip caffeine gum

  • Anyone under 18
  • Women who are pregnant or nursing
  • People sensitive to caffeine
  • Anyone on medication or with a health condition should ask a doctor first

This is general information, not medical advice.
